Burton graduated from the University of Alberta in 1999 with a B.Sc. Environmental Science. Subsequently, after discovering a passion for the geosciences, he returned to the University of Alberta to complete a B.Sc. Geology in 2004.

Burton has over 20 years of progressive environmental experience specializing in soil and groundwater assessments, liability assessments, remediation, reclamation and soil classification. He is highly respected leader of the environmental discipline and seasoned field professional who has conducted a multitude of environmental liability assessments, contaminated site assessments and remediation projects on commercial, industrial, and residential properties in addition to upstream oil and gas facilities in Alberta.

Furthermore, Burton has also managed the complete reclamation of oil and gas facilities throughout Alberta and has obtained numerous Remediation and Reclamation Certificates. Additional experience includes soil surveys and mapping for environmental assessments and reclamation planning for various energy projects including renewables.
